Sir Isaac Newton (16431727) was an English mathematician and
physicist. He invented calculus and discovered several laws of physics.
His three laws of motion became the foundation of modern dynamics.
From them he derived the law of universal gravitation. His theories
established a system of natural science that has since dominated
Western thought.
Newtonian (or classical) physics is concerned with objects that are
large in comparison to an atom and which move slower than the
speed of light. It is based on Isaac Newton’s three laws of motion
which set out a framework for studying the motion of objects and the
forces which act upon them.
